Today industry trends are moving in high speed, high precision and sustainable use to develop new products. The friction surface between the two components including movement, wear and lubrication problems are facing more difficult researches and challenges. The aim of the ICETAT 2018 is to gather scholars from all over the world to present advances in the aforementioned fields and to foster an environment conducive to exchanging ideas and information. The ICETAT 2018 will provide a platform to assemble researchers, practitioners, and academics to present and discuss ideas, challenges and potential solutions on established or emerging topics relating to research and practice in Engineering Tribology of high-speed, high-precision, energy conservation, sustainable use, advanced design, industrial tribology and issues with application.

There are 19 topics in the conference, including
1.Basic Friction and Wear
2.Lubricants and Lubrication
3.Contact Mechanics and Adhesion
4.Surface Engineering and Coating
5.Material Analysis and Examination
6.Tribology in Machine Elements
7.Tribo-chemistry and Tribo-corrosion

Fatigue and Tribology: Mini Symposium, ESMC 2018
Jul 2 – Jul 6 all-day
10th European Solid Mechanics Conference
Mini-symposium title
3-13 – Fatigue and Tribology
Organizers
Filippo Berto (NTNU), Michele Ciavarella (Politecnico di Bari), Daniele Dini (Imperial College London)
Mini-symposium description

Fatigue is an old problem, but still responsible for many unexpected failures, mainly because microscopic defects become critical in a relatively short time. The subject is relevant to modern technology and a wide range of industrial applications, such as additive manufacturing processes and new materials. Safe life, fail safe and damage tolerance are various approaches to deal with fatigue design.  Tribology, i.e. the study of rubbing interfaces, on the other hand, is a relatively new area, but has also crucial importance to limit damage occurring at the surfaces between interacting components, in the form of e.g. wear and contact fatigue.  The symposium will aim to receive contributions from the broad areas of solid mechanics, fatigue and fracture, and tribology, which target new methodologies and recent advances in these fields, with particular emphasis placed on the problems occurring at the boundary between those disciplines.

Science of Wear: International Workshop
Sep 16 – Sep 20 all-day

Among the basic tribological phenomena of contact, adhesion, friction, lubrication and wear, wear remains the least scientifically understood. At the same time, wear remains one of the most important tribological phenomena in practice, affecting all aspects of our lives and current technologies. Our understanding of the fundamental processes of wear has been improving recently, due to new theoretical approaches, improved experimental techniques and rapidly growing numerical capabilities. It is felt that now it is the right time to revisit the subject of wear intensively, with a special focus on the understanding of physical mechanisms. The workshop “Science of wear” serves to survey the state-of-the-art in the field of wear research and to map out likely developments in the near future. From a technical point of view, three topics will be in the foreground:

– Interaction of plasticity and adhesion during wear

– Use of modern simulation techniques for prediction of wear

– Low wear conditions

Topics

·      Interplay of adhesion and plasticity in adhesive wear

·      BEM simulations of wear of heterogeneous media

·      Wear of functionally graded materials

·      Wear particles Emission

·      Fretting, fatigue, structural damping

·      Molecular dynamics simulations of wear

·      Wear of artificial joints and implants

·      Materials for tribological applications

·      Systems with minimal wear

·      Third body: modeling and simulations
