„Friction, lubrication and wear – research and implementation“
is the general heading of the 58th Tribology Conference of the Gesellschaft für Tribologie e.V., the German Society of Tribology, taking place on September 25th-27th in Göttingen (Germany).
70 presentations from industry and research institutes, a poster session in the foyer as well as a trade exhibition with new and established products around Tribology will offer information on latest progresses in science and technology.
Please see the organizers website for more information.
The 89th Annual Meeting of The Society of Rheology will be held in Denver, Colorado on October 8-12, 2017; the optional associated short course will be offered October 7th and 8th. The technical program will take place at the Embassy Suites in center of downtown Denver. Local attractions include dozens of shops and restaurants on the 16th Street Mall (just 2 blocks from the Embassy Suites), Pixabay] Colorado History Museum (site of the Monday reception), Colorado State Capitol, and many other opportunities for dining and site-seeing.
The average high and low temperatures in Denver during October are 66°F and 33°F, respectively, with an average 1.4 inches of precipitation. Temperature decrease dramatically after sundown in the Mile High City, so plan on bringing a jacket even if predicted high temperatures are in the 60s or 70s.
Adhesion is a phenomenon that plays an important role in many technical applications as well as in biological systems and medical applications. Many aspects of this phenomenon are still not well understood. The workshop is intended to provide an intensive exchange of information on the state of research on the rapidly developing area of “adhesion and friction”, whereby “friction” also means “internal friction” (and thus adhesion of elastomers). Invited are representatives of physically and mechanically oriented research as well as representatives of the fields of application – in mechanical engineering, biology and medicine. The targeted applications are adhesion both on the macroscopic level and on the scale of cells (which is of great importance, for example, in cancer research) and even on the scale of individual molecules
· Influence of macroscopic shape on adhesion
· Influence of roughness on adhesion
· Numerical simulation of adhesive contacts
· Experimental studies of adhesion
· Adhesion of viscoelastic media
· Interplay of adhesion and friction
· Modeling of adhesive contacts with friction
· Adhesion and tribology of gradient materials
· Adhesion and friction in biological microstructures
· Adhesion of cells and testing methods based on adhesion
· Molecular adhesion
EMCR is an international conference about corrosion electrochemistry, held in various countries since 1982. The single-session format means you can catch all the presentations and not miss out on anything. The whole event is held at a single venue along with social events and accommodation, giving you plenty of time to get to know others in your field.
See further details on the webpage of the conference.
The Annual Meeting of The Society of Rheology is held in mid-October. The meetings ordinarily last three to four days and are open to both members and non-members. Every effort is made to stimulate and encourage fruitful discussion during the technical sessions, with 25 minutes normally allotted to the presentation and discussion of each paper. There are normally no more than four simultaneous sessions, and the program includes plenary lectures, special symposia, informal evening discussions, and instrument exhibits. A banquet is held to honor the recipients of the Society’s awards: the Bingham Medal, the Journal of Rheology Publication Award, and the Distinguished Service Award, all for outstanding contributions to rheology. The Annual Meeting for those years during which an International Congress of Rheology occurs (2004, 2008, etc.) is held early in the following year (except when the ICR is held in the United States).
